Holistic and Alternative Healing Modalities

Holistic and alternative animal health care is a combination of a number of approaches. It involves conventional diagnostics with therapeutic modalities, and has been named holistic medicine, naturopathic medicine, complementary medicine and alternative medicine.

A holistic approach describes a field of treatment that assesses the entire animal along with their environment and then treats the animal care as a whole. This is different from conventional medicine which focuses on the disease and then treats the symptoms of the disease.

Naturopathic medicine uses many forms of treatment but is limited by focusing mainly on diet, herbal and exercise. It is a system that believes in the body's intrinsic ability to heal and maintain itself. It utilizes some physical medicine which is the manipulation of the muscle, bones and the spine.

Complementary medicine is suggestive of a field of medicine that is meant to complement conventional approaches but not replace them, such as pharmaceuticals and surgery.

Alternative medicine can imply an either/or personality. It usually encompasses any form of therapy without the standard or conventional form of treatment.
